“When focus is paired with differentiation, supported by a trend, and surrounded by compelling communications, you have the basic ingredients of a zag.”

Obvious, yes, but when you actually try to fill in the blanks… you realize how much work that you still have ahead of yourself. It’s about finding that single quality that makes the company unique and then exploiting it in a trendy and gripping way. In today’s saturated marketing place we designers need to step in and take advantage of our abilities to produce good, thought out design.
I spend a lot of time on the research and concept phase and I definitely agree with the profile. I enjoy learning and digging deep into the philosophy of a company until I can find out exactly what makes them unique yet bold. This was definitely a problem for me early in the curriculum because of how fast projects moved. I’d find myself working up to the last minute simply because I wouldn’t want to settle for less and start my design process off much too late.
I’m excited about the branding project this semester.

Well, yes.
There are 5 billion languages in the world. Each of us talks, listens, and thinks in his/her own special language that has been shaped by our culture, experiences, profession, personality, mores and attitudes. The chances of us meeting someone else who talks the exact same language is pretty remote.
I’d like to see design really narrow this down, such as Sadan did with their ballots. With such a large part of the population suffering from illiteracy, they used design symbols to communicate. In a modern globalized world, can we really afford to have all these different languages? Is it our destiny to become one world with one language?
This is going to be a big year, I’m stoked to really kick it in gear. I will now be using this blog for class assignments as well.
